Born out of Smith’s obsession with a curious ongoing historical pattern—when women are relegated to the home, nature motifs abound in their homes—these works question if a secret language exists between women and nature. Smith explores how women speak through the decorations in their homes when their own natural wildness is not allowed. These works pull inspiration from beautiful bouquets, floral patterns on wallpaper, dresses, and dishes, and Western trends of emotional acceptability from the Victorian era to today.
