The ambitious drawings of Rooted in The Landscape reflect the artist’s relocation to Austin, TX, a long-term artist residency at 100W Corsicana, and the purchase of her first home. The scale of Texas is reflected in the immersive scale of the larger drawings, as is Smith’s experience of being rooted in place after many nomadic years.. Women’s emotional worlds, marriage, relationships, creating spaces for ourselves, and the use of nature as a place of self discovery as well as interior decorations are all explored in the drawings from this period.
